As someone who has been deeply connected to essential oils since childhood, I can’t imagine a life without them. For me, they’ve been more than just aromatic indulgences—they’re a form of self-care, a tool for healing, and a means to create grounding rituals. Most nights, I go to bed with a blend of essential oils on my skin, a comforting ritual that helps me relax and connect with myself. Now, as a yoga instructor, I’m bringing this passion into my practice and encouraging my clients to explore the profound benefits of incorporating essential oils into their own yoga journeys.
Here’s why I believe essential oils are not just an enhancement but an essential addition to yoga practice, along with five key benefits they bring to the mat.
Why Essential Oils and Yoga Are the Perfect Pair.
Yoga is all about connection—between the body, mind, and spirit. Essential oils, with their ability to influence mood, emotions, and physical well-being, naturally complement this purpose. Both are tools for mindfulness, balance, and healing, and together, they create a deeply immersive experience that enhances physical, emotional, and energetic awareness.
When used mindfully, essential oils can help yogis connect to their practice on a deeper level. They amplify the calming, energising , or cantering effects of yoga, creating a sensory-rich experience that goes beyond movement and breath. For me, introducing oils into my classes is about offering my clients an opportunity to reconnect with themselves through scent, which is often overlooked as a pathway to emotional and physical well-being.
Five Benefits of Using Essential Oils in Yoga.
1. Enhances Relaxation and Stress Relief
Certain essential oils, like lavender, chamomile, or sandalwood, are known for their calming properties. When paired with restorative yoga or savasana, they can help deepen relaxation and reduce stress. These oils act as a natural support system, soothing the nervous system and promoting a sense of peace that extends beyond the practice.
2. Boosts Energy and Focus
For more dynamic yoga styles like vinyasa or power yoga, energizing oils like peppermint, lemon, or eucalyptus can help invigorate the body and sharpen focus. These scents stimulate the senses, improve alertness, and encourage an uplifting mindset that aligns with an active practice.

For my clients, introducing essential oils into their yoga practice is an invitation—not a requirement. Whether it’s through diffusing a blend during class, offering oils for personal application, or guiding them in using oils for their own at-home practice, I aim to create a space where they can explore the beauty and power of essential oils.
Essential oils, much like yoga, are deeply personal. Each person may resonate with different scents, just as they do with different poses or styles of practice. My hope is that by experimenting with essential oils, my clients can discover new ways to connect with their bodies, emotions, and the world around them.
